New Baby

Finally I got it!! She is now home with us.
Nicole refuses to name her Niko.. We have to start thinking of some new names. She is doing well except some cough (still on medication). My family members like her a lot. Hope she is happy with us.

Name for my New Dog

Guess what!! I have got a name for my next dog. Though, I have yet to get one. But I have someone in mind if fate permit. She shall be named " NiKo"; Ni represent second in Japanese. As she is our second pet. Hope my sister Nicole don't mind..

Japan Dog

I happened to watch a program on Animal Planet that showed the Japan dog. There are marriage vow being arranged for their pet. The priest mentioned there are about 30 marriage carried out per year. There are also mobile furnace arrange at their door step. The priest will perform a ritual for the dead dog. Follow by the cremation of the body. The ash will be given to the owner within that day. I guess this is something new and interesting.
Basically, I would say Japanese loves dog. There are many dog cafes around Tokyo. There is this machine where the dog and the owner can shower and blow dry together. There are also grooming salons where the dog will groom together with the owner. They can choose to tie in the same hair accessories. Jacuzzis are also available for owner and their pet where they can enjoy spa and swim together. Sound fun isn’t it.

Have you watch Hichiko?
Hachikō was an Akita dog (See picture on the left) born on a farm near the city of Odate. He was remembered for his loyalty to his owner, even many years after his owner's death. In 1924, Hachikō was brought to Tokyo by his owner, Uneno; a professor in the agriculture department at the University of Tokyo. During his owner's life Hachikō saw him off from the front door and greeted him at the end of the day at the nearby Shibuya Station. The pair continued their daily routine until May 1925, when Professor Ueno did not return on the usual train one evening. The professor had suffered a stroke at the university that day. He died and never returned to the train station where his friend was waiting. Hachikō was given away after his master's death, but he routinely escaped, showing up again and again at his old home. Eventually, Hachikō apparently realized that Professor Ueno no longer lived at the house. So he went to look for his master at the train station where he had accompanied him so many times before. Each day, Hachikō waited for Professor Ueno to return. And each day he did not see his friend among the commuters at the station. The permanent fixture at the train station that was Hachikō attracted the attention of other commuters.

Getting Ready for Chinese New Year?

Lately I have been hearing this question; have you get ready for New Year? What does that mean? Whether we have buy what we need to buy; clothing, goodies, stuff up food in the fridge or spring cleaning; clearing old furniture, old clothing or household stuffs.. I am not a CNY person. I do prefer Christmas than CNY. It’s not because I have to give out AngPow. The mood is totally difference. I feel peace and holy during Christmas and the total opposite for CNY.
There are surcharges everywhere; foods are more expensive; surcharges for hair cut, mani/pendi.. Even for dog grooming there are surcharges too. I believe you want your pooch to get pretty and neat during CNY.
What do you usually do during CNY? Besides eating and drinking when you visit friends and relatives’ house. Some people do show off their achievements in the previous year. “How Lian” (Boast) on which property they bought or their earning from the stocks.
My relatives will usually visit my parent during the first day of New Year; those are the pretty close ones.. Cousins, aunties and uncles. I used to arrange games like Bingo and treasure hunt for everyone. I believe everyone does enjoy that as old and young can play together. This is another way of getting bonded rather than just 4 parties bond in the mahjong game. While, I shall start planning some games now. Gong Xi Fa Cai .. Huat Ah!!

Cataract

Lucky is an old lady. At the age of 14, she is still actively played around. Taking a closer look, she actually have cataract on both of her eyes.
Cataract is an eye disease in which the lens becomes covered in an opaque film that affects sight, eventually causing total loss of sight. The condition usually affects age dogs and is generally found in both eyes to varying degrees. It can be treated surgically by replacing the lens with an artificial implant. One of the heartbreaks that happen as animal's age is the development of cataracts. This is much more common in dogs than in cats. When it gets to the point that the animal can no longer see, traditional medicine says the only thing they can do for it is surgery to remove the cloudy lens. The surgery is expensive and many loving owners would find it difficult, especially in today’s financial state, to come up with the funds for the surgery. In Singapore surgery cost may cost $2500 per eye and it must be performed by a specialist in veterinary ophthalmology. In fact, small dogs have higher rates of cataracts than large dogs. Make special arrangement in your house that suit our poor vision fellow. They will tend to knock around the furnitures.

Toy Poodle

Remember I mention about getting a new pet sometime ago... I have went around and found myself fall in love with the red toy poodle. Isn't it cute? Red poodle is quite common as compare to the chocolate one. Now I rarely see white poodles. They are also hard to maintain because white get tear stain easily. If you get a chance to visit the SKC competition, those poodles are usually white. I have somehow rejected the offer as the price quoted is definitely off my budget.
The reason why I choose poodles because Toy Poodles are clever and lively household companions, adaptable to their environments and are fairly easy to train—it’s no surprise that they were once very popular circus dogs. Overall, they are eager to please and a lot of fun to be around. Poodles are generally active and agile. They are happiest with daily walks and lots of outdoor play. Without enough attention and activity, they can get bored, agitated, restless and (sometimes) destructive. These are distinguished, elegant dogs with a stellar range of skills, including agility and obedience. Poodles do not like to be left alone for hours on end. They love being around people and are able to form bonds with each member of the family, as opposed to bonding with just one person. Poodles are ideal family dogs, being both patient and playful with children—Toy Poodles be slightly less patient with young children. They also make superb watchdogs, barking zealously when strangers approach the home.
Things You Should Know:
Poodles may look dainty and demur, but in truth, these are high-stamina dogs with a stellar range of skills, including agility, obedience, hunting and herding. Your pretty Poodle could be a sporty competitor in addition to a beautiful show dog. As a Toy Poodle owner, you must be ready to groom: They need to be clipped and bathed regularly. On the plus side, they don’t shed. Toy Poodles can live as long as 15 years. Common issues can include hip dysplasia, allergies, skin conditions, ear infections and cataracts.
