Introducing our baby to your pup requires preparation in order to create a safe environment for all. Here's how to prepare your pooch for his/her new role in your growing brood.
1. First, Never leave baby and dog alone together until your child is old enough to call for help if need be.
2. Prepare your dog for the type of behavior that he or he is likely to encounter with a baby.
3. Before arriving home with the baby, have someone introduce the newborn;s scent to the dog with a blanket from the hospital.
4. It is advised that the dog be allowed to explore the baby's room and get acquainted with the new scents. Be sure to praise your pup from calm behavior in the nursery.
