What's your party attire?

How was your Christmas celebration? Had a good party? If you have not enjoyed.. Don't worry there is one more coming up.
We had a wedding celebration on Christmas eve. The theme was blue and Miko was well dress for the event. I got couple of dresses for her when I was at Bangkok last weekend. It cost about S$13. The design and material is not bad. I don't think you can get this design in Singapore's pet shop.
Hope you have a good party this weekend.. Wishing you A Peaceful Year Ahead. Happy 2012!

Things to consider before Adopting a dog

Casey is one of my customer whom I had groomed twice and find him lovely and obedient boy. His owner is putting him for adoption due to work commitment which the family need to move oversea. If you are interested do give me a call. You can see his photo in one of my gallery.

There are things you should be looking for before adopting a pet
1. Is the Dog spayed? Does he need special care?
2. Does the dog fit with your lifestyle? Decide whether you want an active, high-energy dog or one with less energy
3. Does the dog get along with other dogs or other animals. How do they react to children and elderly, women and men?
4. Why is the dog up for adoption? Make sure you can handle or work through any obvious behavior problems. Be prepare to house train the new dog and read up about the breed.
5. Spend some time alone with the dog (recommend visit the dog) before making a final decision

Its a commitment for the next couple of years..

She is two

Time flies.. Miko is two this year. Still remember we had a birthday party on her first birthday? She had so many presents from friends and relatives.

What has changed?

- She is more mature now. She used to teething when she is One and now she don't.

- She is now feed on home cook food compare to the dry food (healthier choice neh)

- Her color had changed quite a lot (so sad). But as long as she is healthy, we are happy.

What have not changed?

- She still weights the same 1.5-1.8kg)

- Her size is still the same (which we like)

- She is still very choosy (like her mother)

- She is still so adorable and attractive (like her mother.. haha)

Keep growing MIKO!! We Love U

The Pets Gourmet at SOMThai

We went Som Thai Restaurant at Roberston Walk for pets cooking lesson organized by

Pet's Magazine..

The cool thing is the restaurant allow dogs wor.. Another chill out place with your pooches.

Can recognize which plate is for human and which is for dogs? Actually they are the same. Humans' one are served with more seasoning. Braised Beef with Sweet Potatoes, snow pea served with Brown rice and Stir Fried Minced Chicken, Green Peas and Carrot rice are being prepared. Actually they look like "Char Peng"(Fried Rice) to me.
Miko is still the central of attraction. I guess we are going to be published in the next issue again.
Not forgetting our beloved Coco.. This 7 month old pup is behaving like a lady now.

Wonderful Sunday spend at Som Thai..

What is the function of their tail?

Dogs uses their tail as rudders when they swim, balance, and run, helping them turn corners and negotiate jumps. A swish helps keep insects away. Dogs in cold climates curl their tails around their bodies for warmth, often burying their noses in the furry tips to take the chill off the air they breathe. Of course, waving, wagging, or lowering the tail can mean cheerfulness, unease, or fear.

A dog’s tail speaks volumes about his mental state, his social position, and his intentions. How the tail came to be a communication device is an interesting story. The dog’s tail was originally designed to assist the dog in its balance. When a dog is running and has to turn quickly, it throws the front part of its body in the direction it wants to go. Its back then bends, but its forward velocity is such that the hindquarters will tend to continue in the original direction. Left unchecked, this movement might result in the dog’s rear swinging widely, which could greatly slow its rate of movement or even cause the dog to topple over as it tries to make a high-speed turn. The dog’s tail helps to prevent this. Throwing the tail in the same direction that the body is turning serves as a sort of counterweight, which reduces the tendency to spin off course. Dogs will also use their tails when walking along narrow surfaces. By deliberately swinging the tail to one side or the other in the direction opposite to any tilt in the body, the dog helps maintain its balance, much the same way a circus tightrope walker uses a balance bar. Quite obviously, then, the tail has important uses associated with specific movements. However, the tail is not particularly important on flat surfaces, when a dog is simply standing around or walking at normal speeds. At these times, it becomes available for other uses. Evolution again seized an opportunity and now adapted the tail for communication purposes. The tail is also an extension of the spine, so never tug a dog by its tail. This causes a jolt to the entire spinal column.

Chewy for Miko

This morning I got this chewy from my close sister.
Lately I realize Miko's teeth are yellow.. and stinko. She has a broken puppy teeth and I believe this is getting decay. I have approach the vet and they will do it when I want to spay her. The chewy really help to clean up her teeth up. You can give it a try.

Remembering 9/11

9/11 attacks marks its 10 anniversary last weekend. Still remember what you were doing at that time? I was working in a small Japanese firm and people just spread the news and we were watching video clips of what happened. Scary!
While the focus of most media is on the tragic events of that terrible day, Yahoo News ran a poignant slideshow featuring some of the 13 canine members of the Search Dog Foundation who searched for victims. We remember and honor the human rescuers and the thousands of victims of 9/11, we can do the same for these heroic dogs.

In the above photo, border collie Cowboy searches for victims in the rubble of the Twin Towers

To train your pup to be a search dog, I believe its double the effort we train and discipline our furry kids.

Here are the 5 popular search dog training breed?

1. Bernese Mountain Dog. The Bernese Mountain dog has grown in popularity over the last few years. It is known as a ‘gentle giant’. It is extremely affectionate and very intelligent. This breed of dog can weigh from between 80- 120 pounds, with tri-colored, silky fur. This is very much an outdoor dog and is well used to cold weather as it was traditionally used to pull carts in Switzerland. The Bernese Mountain dog is very trainable and stable, but requires a firm hand. They make excellent companions and are especially good with children and other pets. They make a very good addition to the family.
2. The Rottweiler. This may be a surprising choice of top 5 search dog training breeds due to it’s negative press attention. It is largely seen as a mean and dangerous dog, but is actually a very popular search dog training breed. This is because it is a highly intelligent dog and good natured if trained properly. The Rottweiler can be very loyal to it’s family and very obedient, which makes it adaptable to several roles. The Rottweiler is just as capable of being a guard dog as being used in service and can make a loving family pet.
3. The German Shepherd. German Shepherd dogs, or Alsatians were originally breed as working dogs, mainly for herding sheep. They have both strength and intelligence and can be very obedient. This is the reason they are frequently used by the police force and the military. They make for a loving family member as well as a trusted guard dog. They bond well with people they know, however they can become over-protective if not socialized properly.
4. The Golden Retriever. This breed of dog is probably one of the best loved and well known in the category of search dog training breed. They are well known for their intelligence and versatility. They are extremely friendly and wanting to please their owners. They have a patient demeanour, which has made them one of the most popular family dogs. The Golden Retriever is highly compatible with children as well as other dogs, cats and livestock. They have a high level of sociability towards people, with a calmness and ability to learn. Because of these positive attributes they are one of the breeds of dogs used for guide dogs for the blind and mobility assistance dogs as well as search and rescue dogs.
5. Final top 5 search dog training breed is the Collie. Probably well known for it’s role as Lassie and often referred to as a Lassie dog. Originally bred as herding dogs, this attribute is probably why they have a constant desire to keep an eye on their family. It is one of the most popular family dogs. The Collie is friendly and alert and very protective to it’s owners. Collies are gentle dogs, with a sweet personality. They are very easy to train, but do need constant discipline.

Miss Groomer to China

The first mission to Guangzhou with my partner. Looking for Opportunities!

We waited 1.5hrs for the taxi outside a shopping mall. People fighting, shouting, spitting and jumping queue. People in the queue are so united, we watched out and stopped people from jumping queue. Its Autumn festival and the Chinese treated this festival so seriously. They have 3 days rest, they will travel out with family and friends for a short getaway. Its just like another CNY The most friendly people we met are the taxi drivers. Taxi (da di) are so cheap compare to Singapore and they go by meter. Advice not to take those illegal taxi as they will give you heart attack on the rate you have to pay.

Our first Kung fu meal we ate at Guangzhou. Its like fast food. They serve rice, soup, meat and egg. We have been avoid eating meat. One of my friend read about Chinese eating dog meat.

Duck, Pork and Char Siew cum a salted egg. Yummy!!

Busy train station. The train ticket is a magnetic coin.
A great experience travelling to China. We are so blessed that we did not meet any danger there. We have heard of counterfeit note exchanged when you purchase from shop. Some even found counterfeit notes when they drawn money from the ATM machine. You could be target to be robbed as this city is extremely crowded, polluted and the people for the most part dishonest and looking to rip you off. Be extremely careful with your belongings especially bags and hand phone. In Guangzhou, Cantonese is much more widely spoken. Brush up your Cantonese before going. A fruitful experience in these 5 days.

Comfort Zone

Are you always in your comfort zone?
"Have you ever done something that is not within your comfort zone?" I thought for a day and till now, I do not know how to answer this question.
When I posed this question to my sister, she replied(within 3 minutes)," I have never really experienced doing something out of my comfort zone as I treat every new thing or opportunity as a challenge and test for my capability. When I encounter problems I will find means and ways to solve it as part of my job fulfillment."
I like her answer. Whenever I face a problem, I treat it as a challenge. I even challenge myself now; to go through a 30 days yoga challenge. It's really mind over body.

Definitely this is not me..

Why Coconut is good for our Furry Friend

Manage to get this piece of information from the dogster..
1. Coconut oil improves overall skin health, and clears up skin conditions such as eczema, flea allergies, contact dermatitis, and itchy skin.
2. Incredibly emollient, coconut oil helps moisturize the dryest K9 skin and makes a dog’s coat gleam with health – whether you add it to her diet, her shampoo, or both!
3. Applied topically to the skin, coconut oil promotes the healing of cuts, wounds, hot spots, bites, and stings.
4. The antibacterial and antifungal properties of coconut oil help reduce doggy odor, and its pleasantly tropical aroma imparts a delightful scent to a dog’s skin and coat.
5. Coconut oil prevents and treats yeast infections, including candida. Its antiviral agents also help dogs recover quickly from kennel cough.
6. Digestion and nutrient absorption are improved by the addition of coconut oil to a dog’s diet. It can, however, cause stool to loosen; if that happens, just add a few spoonfuls of canned pumpkin to your dog’s diet

7. Coconut oil reduces – and sometimes eliminates – doggy breath. Some dog lovers even brush their pets’ teeth with the stuff! Which makes sense, as dogs love the taste of coconut oil, and that makes the chore less arduous for brusher and brushee.
8. Like
cinnamon, coconut oil helps prevent diabetes by regulating and balancing insulin. It also promotes normal thyroid function, and helps prevent infection and heart disease.
9. Helping to reduce weight and increase energy, coconut oil also promotes mobility in dogs with arthritis and other joint issues.
10. Again like cinnamon, coconut oil is excellent for brain health; it’s being used to stave off dementia in humans, and it’s a must to keep senior dogs’ minds from becoming cloudy.

Obedience Entry

Happened to be around to see the SKC Obedience entry. I guess I would probably sending Miko back to school. She basically don't listen to my command. I know its not her fault. Its the owner's. I better spend more time with her.
